Today, October 19, is the anniversary of the birth of Harris Glenn Milstead who grew into the beloved drag performer, Divine. Most well known for her appearances in John Waters films (Pink Flamingos (in 1972), Female Trouble, Polyester, and Hairspray), Divine also appeared in off-Broadway theatrical productions and had her own one-person show.
Milstead/Divine died in his/her sleep in 1988 at the age of 42. The autopsy uncovered an enlarged heart.
"All my life I wanted to look like Elizabeth Taylor. Now Elizabeth Taylor looks like me."
The House of LeMay celebrates her life, mourns her passing.
