Following up on our very successful "Don't Blow It, Vote!!" campaign during the 2008 presidential election, The League of Drag Queen Voters has decided to continue their good deeds by offering advice on local, state and national issues that effect its members.
One of the most urgent concerns on the statewide level is the budgetary shortfall. Money that was expected didn't show up and expenses that were projected are being cutback. We will address possible new income sources in a future proposal, but for now we'd like to address trimming the fat from the State's budget.
It was reported last month that Governor Jim Douglas receives a food allowance of $54 a day (yes, a day), which comes to $14,040 each year. And this from a man who listed his worth at $2,000,000+ during the last election. That's over 2 MILLION for those who get confused with zeros and commas.
So, do you think JD could get buy with a little less of your money to eat three squares a day? If you watch TV as much as I do, you KNOW he can! And lose weight, too. Trimming the budget and his physique at the same time. Sort of like killing two birds with one stone and then eating the birds!
The easy solution? Nutrisystem. Yep, you've seen the commercials. For just $12(!) a day, you get three meals of "man food" - pizza, burgers, lasagna - and they deliver, too! And you don't have to tip them! This would be a savings of $10,920!!!!
We're not saying that ol' JD is overweight but he could set a fine example to create healthier figures (both finance and physique-wise) by joining this program. AND what if some of the representatives and senators followed suit? The food could be delivered directly to the statehouse and challenges could be made to other states... such as with the Capitol Steps program recently reported on WCAX.
Granted, a $10,000 savings may not mean much to those in Montpelier, but to members of the League of Drag Queen Voters, that's a lot of lip liner.
