Mayor Bibs Fisk Urges Responsible Holiday Decorating
For Immediate Release: November 28, 2007

Now that the Holiday Season is upon us, I feel it necessary to remind Beaver Pond residents of our community's commitment to responsible holiday decorating. While recognition of our individual tastes and beliefs during this season is important, it does not, and must not, override our commitment to good taste! The attached photograph of Liza Little's home serves as a reminder of what will not be tolerated. The mixing of seasonal décor, such as Liza's plastic bag Jack O'Lantern/scarecrow thing and Mrs. Claus, is strictly prohibited.
T'is not the season to be lazy, so please make sure you have removed one holiday's decorations before putting up another's. Of course, for those with mixed faith families, it is permissible to have a combination of Christmas themed decorations, such as a lighted nativity display or Santa, and a Hanukah Menorah, Star of David, or even lighted Kwanzaa candles. However, even when showing tolerance for diverse traditions, always remember to let good taste be your guide.
As is always the case when decorating, use complimentary colors for lights, bows, and candles. Stay within one medium, for example by using all natural decorations. Additionally, in keeping with our continuing efforts to save the environment, please remember to turn out your lights at night, or put them on a timer. And, if you must use plastics, make sure they are recyclable.
Have a Happy and Tasteful Holiday Season!
Mayor Bibs Fisk
