BobTown #16 - P&J Leaving Marketplace

posted Wednesday, 5 August 2009

The top of the Marketplace is going to be less peaceful soon as the Peace & Justice Store/Center is moving to the Waterfront.  They've been at 21 Church Street for eighteen years and are moving to smaller digs in the Main Street Landing building (Lake and College Streets) right beside The Skinny Pancake

Living in the Old North End, I pass the store every time I head downtown.  Lots of interesting things, unique gift ideas... all with a social conscience.  They've opened their library as a meeting room for groups as well as always been generous to other causes.  To make their move easier, they're have a moving sale... starting with 25% off everything in the store.  Help them out, stock up on items, save some money.  Win-win!

With them moving, it leaves that upper block pretty empty...

Recently Damsels (left) closed after being open a few short months. Olympia Sports (right) closed earlier this year.

And Ann Taylor has been closed for quite awhile.  Wonder if Urban Outfitters is enough to keep that block going.

Other posts we've made about the retail situation on Church Street are... Bank & Church and Musical Stores.

A LOT of our pictures/posts come from Burlington and our good friend Bob, so we've decided to let him loose on his favorite city and give him his own section of our blog... we'll call it BobTown.   Most of the time it won't have anything to do with drag or gay stuff or even him... just stories about... BobTown.   We get a lot of hits from all over the world - probably from people who want to know more about Vermont's Queen City.  Maybe they're future tourists or they're thinking about moving.   You locals may learn something, too!  Enjoy!!
