The threat of frost must be passed... the fountain at the top of Church Street is flowing! In Googling for information about the fountain, I didn't find anything. The plaque at the (original) base of the fountain reads...
TAKE TIME TO REFLECT
Robert E and Holly D. Miller
July 1, 1994
The Millers have bee long-time community-minded people, donating money and their name to many worthwhile causes.
The reason I said the plaque was at the original base of the fountain, is that if you look at the painting on the right, you see the fountain used to extend past the main basin to a smaller fountain. This part didn't last long. Not sure if it was plumbing problems or the fact that people stepped/fell into it, but for years now it's been cemented over.
The fountain is now open for the Vermont City Marathoners to cool off or the many dogs and children who visit Church Street each day to take a quick dip. Wonder when the first episode of "foaming fountain" will take place?
That's when someone adds a soap product to the water and it becomes a big bubble bath. It happens at least twice a summer.
I apologize for not acknowledging the artist of the painting... I got it from the Church Street Marketplace website and couldn't find a credit.
