Dear Amber - Can a man get pregnant?

posted Thursday, 10 April 2008

It's been awhile since I've gotten a letter/email asking for advice.  The last one was on fashion etiquette.  It's not that people don't ask me questions... it's usually, "Who do you think you are?"  or "What gives you the right to say/do that?" or simply, "WTF?"  But there are those who seek me for my wisdom and knowledge.  If you have a question, please send it to houseoflemay@hotmail.com.

Dear Amber,

Recently on the news I've been hearing about a man getting pregnant.  Is this possible?  It was on Oprah, so it must be true.

Signed,  Birds and Bees Confuse Me

Dear BBCM,

You're not alone.  I wasn't sure how to answer this so I've enlisted the advice of Nurse Ann Thrax, Head Nurse at The Lady Zeno Memorial Groinacological Free Clinic here in Beaver Pond.  Here's what she has to say:

Amber, Amber, Amber

What are you smoking?  Don't answer that - I know it's not cigarettes.  Getting back to the question... the answer to the question concerning whether a man can get pregnant is...

NO!!!

A man can not have a baby.  No matter how much sperm you shoot into any of his orifices, it ain't gonna make a baby.

The person in question is a woman.  She has had her breasts removed and did take some male hormones.  Since she stopped taking the male hormones and did not continue with the procedure to become a male by having an addadicktomy, she is still a woman.  Now, if Oprah would get pregnant, THAT would be news!

While I have your attention, I would like to mention that earlier this week WCAX-TV did a story on ticks and Lyme Disease.  This reminds me of a warning that I put out to you last summer.  For a reminder, click HERE.

Thank You Anne and Amber for clearing this up for me. I had stopped having sex because I was afraid I would get pregnant. Cause you know when you hear something on Oprah it is like God speaking.

Wow. I'm always a fan of some fun, and I certainly can put in a un-PC comment or two once in a while, but this is so not cool.

He identifies as a man. Who gives you the right to call him a woman? And what gives you the right to decide what exactly makes a man a man or a woman a woman?

Wow...this feels really horrible. Why do we have to always push people into gender stereotypes? Why can't we see past the socially constructed gender dichotomies that mainstream America makes us think are "normal?" Really, the Queer community is beyond this sensationalism. I'm offended by the House of LeMay posting this thread. Honestly, what happened to upholding love, respect and unity for all of the members of our queer family? There are no rules about what men and women can or cannot do...

Wow, let's take a breath and calm down. Stance, you're right, "there are no rules," especially when it comes to the House of LeMay. Let's not forget that the House of LeMay, Beaver Pond, and all the characters associated therewith, are fictional--not real--comedy--not to be taken too seriously (or, if you must, you do so at your own peril). The girls make fun of themselves more so than they do anyone else. Poking fun, even when the poking might touch a sensitive or controversial subject, is part of the comedy, part of the act.

but lets not forget there are people behind these characters people who have a tremendous amount of influence here in vermont. They have a right to their own opinions but I think its important for them to know that they are alienating/offending an entire group of people. This topic is extremely controversial right now & dividing our community - it just really sucks that the lemays felt the need to play into the hatred that is occurring. The fact that they felt the need to blog about this in such a disgusting manner really saddens me & I don't find anything about it funny.

As an official MBBBPA & proud Sponsor & Troupe Leader of the LBBP Troup #69, I also hold the title of litterati-letter queen. Thus I feel the need to point out that the proper spelling (unless you want to "dis" a person) of a person or group's proper name requires UPPER CASE LETTERS, people. Liza is putting the public on notice that on must capitalize the "L" and the "M" in the proper noun LeMay; and also LeMay's (possessive); and LeMays (plural); and LeMays' (plural possessive). To do otherwise might hurt my feelings and alienate you from me and I'd hate for my possessive Pierre to get wind of my feelings being hurt, or of being disrespected.
