February 2009 - Short but SWEEEET!

posted Sunday, 8 March 2009

February may be the shortest month, but we managed to pack it full of fun.  And not just for us!!!  Here's what we managed to cram into those 28 days...

After spending three of four nights at the Stowe Winter Rendezvous, we headed back to Burlington on Sunday, February 1, to host a fundrasier for Vermont CARES and Outright VT... DRAG BINGO at Drink.  What a nice turnout... and what fun!!!

We LOVE the world of MyFaceSpaceBook... (are you our friend?)... and when Queerty.com posted Being Gay on Facebook, we had to share it.

We also love when good things happen to good people, especially if they've been good to us!!!  And that was the case when we reported We're GLAAD for Darren Perron.

The biggest news of the month had to be that VERMONT HAS A GAY BAR!!!  We first heard about it late Friday afternoon, sent our spies reporters there that night and the next day posted the news for the whole world to see.  Within a week over 500 people had read about the new gay bar from our blog!!!  As of this date (3/8/9), 853 have read our report.  Telegraph, telephone, tell a Lemay!!!  Thank you to Tim and Rick for making Two Friends Bistro a great place to go, seven days a week!!!

One of the reasons Vermont is so great is that when we get lemons... we drink tequila make lemonade!  When it's winter, we celebrate.  Check out Burlington's Winterfest... we did!

Normally, Valentine's Day is just another day for most of the LeMays... but this year was different.  First we gave you VD2009, and then it was the most spectacular February 14th ever as we presented the Queen of Hearts Drag Ball.  We've said it before... what a night!!!   1200+ people, 12 hours of entertainment and dancing (6 hours in two rooms), thousands of dollars raised for the Vermont People With AIDS Coalition... thank you, thank you, thank you.  We couldn't have done it without the support of Higher Ground, the entertainers/performers and, most of all, our friends.  This was the 14th annual Winter is A Drag Ball... the House of LeMay has appeared/performed at 12 and hosted/produced the last 7.  To see more of our Drag Ball history, click HERE.

If there's a wacky newstory that we can giggle at like a little schoolgirl, we'll post it... like Are They Nuts to Ban Truck Nutz??

Oh, one of the most controversial posts we have had in a long time (and you know us, we love hate controversy!) was the one we made about Burlington's Gayoral Election.  It had the Burlington Free Press readers in an uproar and had the candidates avoiding us in the streets.  How much fun is that!!!

And then there was Mardi Gras.  It's almost a shame that two of the biggest days of the gay year, Drag Ball and Mardi Gras, are just weeks (sometimes just one week) apart.  It takes a great LeMay effort to make sure that we give each event the partying time they each deserve.  Somehow we manage.  We told you about the pre-plans of Mardi Gras, the efforts to prepare Church Street, the Fat Tuesday Party and then... that day (and night)... you can read it all HERE.  And we also updated our History of Mardi Gras.

And to close out the month, Mayor Bibs Fisk, in preparing for Beaver Pond's Town Meeting Day, cancelled the debate on President Obama's stimulating package

I love sharing in the lives of people who march to the tune of their own drummers. Please continue to be who you are. You are frontrunners in the land of independent/group thought... Thank you!
