Help! Name the Theme for Drag Ball 2010!!!

posted Monday, 24 August 2009

Yes, we know that the next Winter is a Drag Ball is more than six months away (2/13/10)... but we have some planning to do!!   With two rooms, six hours of entertainment in each room, 100+ performers and 1100+ in attendance... we've got some work to do.  And YOU can help by suggesting a theme for the night.

People LOVE a theme!  It gives them guidance in selecting their outfit, what numbers to perform and a focus for the decorations.   So, after fourteen years, we're letting YOU in on the process.   Just send your idea to houseoflemay@hotmail.com.

We'll accept suggestions until September 15.  After that we'll get together with the Vermont People With AIDS Coalition and pick the best/most fun one.  If more than one person suggests the same theme (or something very similar) we'll put those names in a hat (well, actually a pretty bonnet), and pull out the "winner."

The winner will receive two tickets to the Drag Ball as well as a backstage tour/pass.

To the right, is a list of previous years' themes.  For links to our posts on Drag Ball history, click HERE.

Year #1 - 1996   The Winter Is A Drag Ball

Year #2 - 1997   "The Duets"

Year #3 - 1998   Theme unknown

Year #4 - 1999   Theme Unknown

Year #5 - 2000  "The Search for Intelligent Drag in the Universe"

Year #6 - 2001  Not sure of theme

Year #7 - 2002  "A night of feather and leather no matter the weather... it's time for CARNIVAL DRAG BALL!"

Year #8 - 2003  "A Salute to the Troops"

Year #9 - 2004  "A St. Valentine's Day Mascara Ball"

Year #10 - 2005  "Seeing Stars"

Year #11 - 2006  "A Tribute to New Orleans!"

Year #12 - 2007  "Beware the Ides of Drag"

Hey ladies! I'm partial to gods/goddesses themes like "pagan pantheon," "she moves in radiant light" (a line from a roman poet describing Venus), or, if we're feeling particularly crude "penis de milo." I also like themes that play with more modern mythologies, such as "over the rainbow" or "through the looking glass."

Okay, I know this is late and passed the deadline, but I'll give it a shot anyway. I think you should have the theme of "Garden of good and evil." Just think of the great costumes, from little devils to angels and princesses! See you in February!
