Is it Art? Or is it TJ?

posted Tuesday, 29 April 2008

Recently while cruising strolling the halls of the Community College of Vermont's Burlington "campus" I came across discovered a photography exhibit.  The exhibit was of works by students in Ann Clayton Barlow's Black & White Photography II class.   One of the students, Amanda Tatro, had six Archival Silver Gelatin Prints* on display.  There were three groups of two, each set with one male and one female featured in the photographs.  The twist was that the males were dressed in women's clothing.  And, as we say in Beaver Pond when in polite company, while interesting looking, the guys were not very "p-r-e-t-t-y."

And one, looked vaguely familiar!!!  This one, reminded us of a softer, more gentler version of TJ, one of the food preparers at Higher Ground!!  If it is TJ, we really wouldn't be that surprised... anyone who drinks as much Fresca as he does is bound to have some other peculiarities that he hides from others.

One of the other "guy" pictures, while not p-r-e-t-t-y, was easy enough on the eyes.

* Silver Gelatin Print: (photography) a black and white photograph processed from a gelatin emulsion of silver within the paper. Although much more labor intensive than printing onto RC (resin coated) paper, which can be machine printed, silver gelatin prints must be printed by hand. Aesthetically, they produce crisp imagery and detail and greater tonal range when compared to other prints. Archivally, they can endure 100+ years while RC prints tend to lose color and integrity of the image in a shorter time span.
