Town Meeting in Beaver Pond

posted Tuesday, 6 March 2007

Greetings Everyone!

As Mayor of Beaver Pond, I just wanted to update you all on the results of Beaver Pond's Town Meeting. As you know, Town Meeting Day in Vermont is one of the last bastions of direct democracy. As such, we went right to work dealing with issues that are important not only to Beaver Ponders, but all Americans.

One of our first agenda items dealt with a proposal to locate a memorial to Anna Nicole Smith at the Edna St. Vincent LeMay Laundromat, Community Center and Lint Museum. Discussion was hardy on both sides of the debate but ultimately the proposal was tabled in order to determine if Liza Little would be able to collect enough lint to create a life-size model of Anna Nicole's bust to go on display.

Nurse Anne Thrax of the Lady Zeno Memorial Groinecological Free Clinic offered a proposal that all area girls be immunized against the human papillomavirus (HPV) on their 16th birthdays. Following an amendment offered by Amber LeMay, seemingly based on her own personal experiences, citizens voted to change the age of immunization to 10 just to be on the safe side.

Another hot topic of debate was a proposal to provide prperty tax relief to local citizens. However, once the town treasurer announced that a majority of property owners were currently delinquent, the proposal was quickly dropped.

One of the last orders of business was a motion made by Cousin Craig to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, the supposed puppet master of the Bush Presidency. In the end, this measure was also tabled in order to see if the blood-clot in Cheney's leg dislodges and goes to his heart, thus making impeachment unnecessary.

Needless to say , Beaver Pond's 2007 Town Meeting was one of its most successful to date. Moving the beer tent out of the municipal building cutback on unnecessary debate and allowed us to adjourn by 11:30. I also want to thank the Lady Beaver's Auxiliary for providing citizens with a wholesome post-meeting lunch. A special thanks goes to Margaurite LeMay for cleaning up all the dishes afterwards.

See you all next year if not before.

Bibs Fisk, Mayor

Bibs - It was not from MY personal experience to suggest the lowering of the age for the HPV immunization - it was from watching Kali Ho's 14 kids run around the trailer park humping everything in site (those apples didn't fall far from that bush, did they?).
