Widget LOST at Sea. Provincetown Carnival '09
It was our last day in Provincetown and it was still sunny. Lucy Belle had put in a hard week working, and now she needed some R and R. She and our friend Widget took their drinks and went to rest in a couple of inner tubes on the water.
They were floating happily and enjoying their drinks.
Unfortunately, Lucy Belle got a little distracted by her booze! She "accidentally" let go of Widgets inner tube.
The strong currents pulled Widget away from Lucy Belle quite quickly.
And Lucy Belle was still too busy cocktailing to notice.
Suddenly she realized what she had done!
Lucy Belle got out of her raft to quickly find help!
That's when she noticed a photographer and paused to take some pictures. But by then it was too late! Widget was nowhere to be seen!
Lucy Belle felt what she thought was a pang of guilt down by her stomach, but then realized it was just crabs.
Finally the US Army was called in to do a search and rescue for Widget.
To console herself, Lucy headed to the Boatslip for the final Tea Dance of the week to chat with her friends.
Many of them were on the dance floor, obviously still unaware of the tragedy.
There she found Matt talking with Madame about the incident.
Johnnie was so upset to hear of Widgets loss, that he tried doing some Widget sized activities. This did not help.
He also tried to honor Widget by looking like what he described as her new Mermaid form at sea.
Laughter is the best medicine, and some of Widget's friends tried to console themselves by going to Miss Richfield's hysterical show "Asians, Homos and Jews! Oh My!"
Finally, one last drink at The Wet Spot to toast Widget!
BUT THEN...Widget reappeared! It seems that the US Army had found her clinging to a lobster buoy miles off the shore. Widget had been returned to us, and it was the perfect end to a beautiful and magical week in Provincetown.
